Babes of Metal
Here’s a list of our picks for the top babes of metal. These chicks are not only hot but super rad too, check them out!
10. Starting off our list is Sally Cato of 80′s glam metal band Smashed Gladys. The band was originally from Toronto, ON but moved to NYC early in their career. Cato had this hot, bad girl vibe singing some pretty dirty tracks such as “Lick it into Shape” and “Legs Up”.
9. The Great Kat, 80′s guitar virtuoso and shredding queen. She graduated from Juillard after studying the violin but then turned her attention to the guitar, turning classical pieces into insane speed metal. She seems a little nuts, but deserves a mention for being a rad chick with an incredible talent. She’s seriously making this face in every photo that I came across.
8. Doro, singer of German metal band Warlock. Doro’s been around for a long time, singing in Snakebite, Beast, Warlock, recording with Lemmy and releasing solo stuff. Even though her career spans decades, she’s still a total babe and looks like she could still kick a lot of ass.
7. Sandi Saraya, singer of ’80′s hair metal band Saraya which included members of Danger Danger and Yngwie Malmsteen’s band. She was once married to the bass player from Tesla. Being from New Jersey, she was pegged as being the next Bon Jovi but it never came to pass. I like that she seems to have a bit of a Jersey, blue collar, tough-guy thing going on though. Check out their self-titled debut, released in ’89 with single “Love Has Taken Its Toll”.
6. Lita Ford got her start as the lead guitarist for the Runaways, but went solo when the band split. She had some commercial success especially with her 1988 release Lita. Her newest album – Wicked Wonderland, released in 2009 is surprisingly heavy. She also voices Rima the Amazon in the awesome PS3 video game Brutal Legend.
5. Starting out the top 5 is Vixen – arguably the biggest all-girl hair band and part of the 80′s LA metal scene. The band’s classic line-up was made up of founding member and lead guit player Jan Kuehnemund, Janet Gardner on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Share Pederson on bass and Roxy Petrucci on drums. They had some commercial success with singles such as “Edge of a Broken Heart” and “Cryin’”. Although these girls had some serious style (we often use pics of them as inspiration before nights out on the town), I always wished that this band had rocked harder.
4. Liz Buckingham, guit player for English stoner metal band Electric Wizard since 2003 when the band went through some major changes. She’s recorded 3 albums with them including the great We Live and Black Masses. Although quite attractive, she seems to be more of a serious musician and I haven’t been able to find any solo pics of her (this one was cropped out of a pic of the band).
3. Angela Gossow, singer of Swedish melodic death metal band Arch Enemy. She’s been singing with the band since they sacked previous singer Johan Liiva in 2000. She apparently got the gig after interviewing Arch Enemy guitar player Michael Amott. She also does the voice for Lavona Succuboso for one of my favourite cartoon shows – Metalocalypse.
1. And our #1 pick for metal babe is Doris Yeh, bass player of Taiwanese symphonic metal band Chthonic. She wears corpse paint on stage but is actually totally hot, posing for various men’s magazines including the Taiwanese version of FHM.
